In our app note "FRENETIC EXAMPLE. FROM ETD34 TO PQ26/25", a transformer used in the experimental kit AN3106 from ST is introduced with the aim of showing the optimized result provided by Frenetic in less than 10 hours.  

The transformer used in the converter was based on a ETD34 and Frenetic reduces the volume by 15% and the weight 10%, which is directly translated to a decrement of the cost and increase of the power density.

Once the design is obtained we have built a sample of this converter and substitute in the converter for testing the temperature behavior, obtaining a very successful result compared with Frenetic's prediction with less than 5% of error

EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS


Both transformers were tested during 30 minutes at 100% of load, to study the evolution of the temperature. As it is shown in the pictures, the Frenetic solution has better thermal response with smaller size. This design can decrease up to 25% the cost of each piece. The design time of the Frenetic solution was less than 10 hours.

Magnetic components are the actual bottleneck for improving the power density in power conversion. For that reason in SPC we have created Frenetic.
